GL.iNet: What operating system is installed on these routers?
GL.iNet routers use an individualized DD-WRT image based on BusyBox Linux. This configuration offers a bit more freedom than other routers, for example compatible packages can be installed later and of course access via SSH as root user to the router is possible. Of course, more packages are possible with the newer models with ARM processors.
The routers from GL.iNet also offer a large configuration scope with their normal web interface, so the Luci known from DD-WRT can also be used for the advanced settings.
The login via SSH on routers with BusyBox-Linux offers some pre-installed commands. For example, the iptables can also be edited directly via shell script.
